maybe I don't hate the DMV after all . . .

I moved to VA in 2001 and had the "pleasure" of changing my car tags and registration, as well as getting a new driver's license.  Even though I arrived right at opening time, several hours of my life were spent in the DMV waiting room.

Fast forward six years to a few weeks ago.  I receive an email from the DMV reminding me that my license expires in October and asking if I would like to renew it online.  My immediate thought: as in, I wouldn't actually have to go to the DMV to get this done??  Ummm, yes, sign me up!

As if completing the renewal from the comfort of my own home was not enough, here's the best part: when you renew your license online, VA simply uses the picture they already have on file - for me, the picture taken in 2006.  And guess when my new license expires.  2020.  Yep, that means that unless I move, my picture remains the same for 14 years.  Hilarious.  Probably not the best move on the part of the DMV if they want to insure accuracy of what people look like.  But I'll take it!
