about church

So it's been a while since I've posted anything . . . lots going on, namely moving to a new apartment.  Ugh.  Moving = not my favorite thing!  That said, I'm grateful for the provision of a great new place & even better neighbors.  I am blessed.

I just read an article on the Common Grounds blog that I thought was excellent: Why I Go To Church.  I resonate with a lot that's said there - primarily as someone who grew up in the church (and continues to do so).  I don't know if anyone else ever has those moments of: why am I doing this?  Is it simply out of habit - or because I really want to be here?  This article expresses both the disillusionment with church that many of us know - either by our own experience or of people in our lives.  But for me, the author also gives voice to the reason why church is not just important - but necessary - for my own daily life.

Yesterday's service would be another perfect example of why I am thankful for and needful of church - there was both good encouragement & correction for me.  The Collect of the Day was one source of this:

Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom,
you know our necessities before we ask
and our ignorance in asking:
Have compassion on our weakness,
and mercifully give us those things
which for our unworthiness we dare not,
and for our blindness we cannot ask;
through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.  Amen.
