holiday snapshots: London

How could you not love London? Even though we only skimmed the surface during our brief time there, I could easily see why so many friends have told me it is their favorite city. From the setting along the Thames, to the wonderful blend of history, tradition, and the modern, I loved it!

We had the privilege of attending evensong at Westminster Abbey . . . there was something both humbling and encouraging about praying in a place where the Gospel has been honored for more than a thousand years. One of the aspects of the Anglican tradition I appreciate most is the way The Book of Common Prayer provides structure for our worship services. The evensong liturgy was a sweet reminder of the interconnectedness of the Church as we prayed words that have become familiar, but with different accents surrounding me.

Another highlight in London that I recommend: The Cabinet War Rooms & Churchill Museum. This was the operations center for the British in World War II - essentially a secure bunker that was built under the Office of Works where Churchill and his Cabinet worked and lived throughout the bombings of London. Definitely a fascinating tour.

And our walk along the Thames at night was perfect . . . something I hope I'm able to do again in the not-too-distant future!
