fifteen years later: reconciliation in Rwanda

Many of you know that I had the privilege of spending several weeks in Rwanda in August of 2007 working primarily with Prison Fellowship Rwanda. Since returning, several friends from my team and I have been working to find ways to help provide a market for the beautifully made handicrafts we saw in numerous villages. Last spring, we got connected with Indego Africa, a non-profit committed to providing training and resources for women in Rwanda, along with a US market for the products they make. Several of us are now serving on the DC Regional Board for Indego Africa and continue to be grateful for the tangible ways IA's work is benefitting women in Rwanda.

This April will mark the fifteenth anniversary of the Rwandan genocide - a 100 day span during which around one million Rwandans were brutally murdered. Indego Africa will be hosting a commemorative event on April 1 in DC, our desire being to honor those whose lives were lost, as well as the Rwandans who are continuously working to improve their nation. In addition, the more supporters we can gain for the work of Indego Africa, the greater the benefit for the Rwandan women who are part of Indego Africa cooperative projects!

To learn more about the meaningful work of Indego Africa:
  • check out the IA website
  • visit the IA blog, which includes real-time stories from Rwanda
  • take a look at the Rwandan products for sale online
  • attend the April 1 event (if you're in the DC area!) - the invitation is below or you can link to it here
