home sweet home

I recently spent a week in my home state of Georgia - great time with immediate and extended family and a lovely change of scenery in general.  I haven't lived there for over twelve years, and there are many things I miss about the South: the slower pace of life, the general friendliness, men with manners (!), pine trees, love of college football season, and - of course - the accents.  One of the saddest things someone can say to me is, "I would never guess you're from GA - you have no accent!"  But it's a sad reality . . . my nine years in the Midwest have all but erased any hint of my once-Southern accent.
