If I ever created a literal bucket list, a number of items would include artists/bands I would love to see perform live. Mumford & Sons has been at the top of my list for the past couple of years, but I'm never in the loop enough to even try to get tickets! I completely lucked out, though, and got to see them this week with my sister and some friends because someone else backed out (thank you!)
Folk music, harmonies, thoughtful lyrics & collaboration are some of my favorite things when it comes to live music - and this show checked all those boxes. Mumford is even better live than on their albums - which is crazy because their albums are fantastic! But their musicianship & vocals are that good . . . no polish is needed. It was an amazing show.
Best parts? There was nothing that disappointed, but there are two favorite things that come to mind. As their first encore, they exited the main stage and came out onto the floor to a very small stage at the back and performed 2 songs with only mics & a guitar - partially a cappella. My dream come true ;) My other favorite was their second encore, which included two songs performed with opener Ben Howard and Springsteen's sax player. They ended with an amazing cover of "Meet Me Tonight in Atlantic City." Loved it.
All to say, if you like Mumford & ever have the chance to go, you should! Probably my favorite concert to date.
There are tons of Mumford performances online - so I'm just posting a video of the Atlantic City cover and then two by Ben Howard (who was great) - I came across his cover of "Call Me Maybe" on YouTube . . . I know, I know - the song is completely overplayed - but this version is different/enjoyable :)
