some thoughts for election day

Talking politics is not something I enjoy - ironic, right, considering that I live in Arlington and work about 5 blocks from the White House?!  Despite the things that frustrate me about the political landscape, I am both grateful and proud to be a citizen of the United States.  And along with that comes great responsibility, which this week means that we have the privilege of exercising our right to vote - a right that many around the world wish they had, but don't.

In addition to being the source of many good music recommendations, my sister is also the only way that I stay partially attuned to anything going on in the world of politics (a by-product of her job).  This weekend she told me about a blog post that provides an excellent perspective as election day approaches on Tuesday.  Written by a conservative blogger, these thoughts are worthwhile regardless of how you lean politically.   It seems as though people on both the right and the left are more amped up about this election - and certainly the outcome will have profound ramifications.  But Erickson's post provides a timely reminder that while we are called to be thoughtful stewards of the citizenship we've been granted in the here & now, we must not forget that ultimately we are citizens elsewhere.

You can read "50,000 Feet Looking Down" by Erick Erickson here.

And be sure to cast your vote on Tuesday!
