Arlington recommendations

I have been asked several times in the past 4-6 weeks for recommendations of various things in the Arlington area: hair salon, doctor, mechanic, etc.  So I decided I'm just going to put it all in one spot so that it will be easier for future referrals - obviously an irrelevant post if you don't live in NOVA!

Hair salon:
  • All the good haircuts I've gotten in the past 4 years have been thanks to Sookie at Perfect Endings Salon in Falls Church.
  • I also tried out the Graham Webb Academy in Rosslyn for a basic cut/trim and had good results.  It takes a bit longer because the students are learning - but you can't beat the $18 price!
Mechanic:
  • Japanese Auto Clinic on Lee Highway in N. Arlington.  They are very honest & won't tell you to repair things that don't need it.
  • Top Japanese Auto on Lee Highway in Falls Church.  Also very honest & usually have cheaper prices.
Alterations:
  • My favorite seamstress retired this past fall, so I've been on the hunt for a new place - so far, I've had good luck with:
    • Cupid Cleaners in N. Arlington (I've just gotten pants hemmed here - $10/pair.  You basically are standing out in the customer area when they measure you, so not ideal for anything other than pants!)
    • Anne's Fashions in Falls Church (alterations are all they do - they did a suit for me & that's where I'll be taking bridesmaid dresses.  Very reasonably priced.)
 Doctors:
  • my primary care doc is Dr. Jennifer Gorrelick and she is fantastic: knowledgeable, not in a hurry, willing to listen to & answer all my questions, & has made good referrals.  Her office is in the VA Hospital Center complex on N. George Mason.
  • if you need an OB/GYN specifically, Dr. Gwendolyn Cobbs is great: very knowledgeable in her field.
  • dermatologist: Dr. Courtney Herbert
  • optometrist: Dr. Leonard Larson in Falls Church - very nice guy & there's an eyeglass store next door if you need it.
Graphic design/web design:
  • one of my fellow Indego Africa DC board members owns a graphic design business called Eighty2degrees.  Ambica is very talented & easy to work with!

That's all I can think of right now . . . still looking for a dentist that I really like.  Recommendations welcome :)
