As you have probably heard, giving financially is the best way to contribute towards the rescue, recovery, & response efforts in Haiti after last week's earthquake. There are lots of great organizations that are on the ground and who will use your donations well. So don't put it off until later - take a couple of minutes & donate now!! Even $5 will help the ongoing efforts.
I chose to donate through Partners in Health, my reasons (if anyone's interested) being: they've been working in Haiti for over 20 years already (and therefore know the area, have staff on the ground, etc.). They are also a known & trusted organization. I first learned about PIH via the book written about its founder, Dr. Paul Farmer, entitled Mountains Beyond Mountains. And I recently read a book about another PIH staff member entitled Strength in What Remains. PIH is committed not only to providing relief, but also to developing sustainable services rooted in community relationships. You can click here to learn more about PIH and donate.
A list of other organizations that are at work in Haiti can be found here.
