I can't believe I've created a blog . . .

A few months ago, one of my friends started a facebook group, the goal of which was to get me to sign up since I have yet to join facebook or myspace. Maybe I'm being stubborn or behind-the-times, but I'd like to think that my lack of interest is for good reasons. Another friend suggested that perhaps I am simply seeking to live a more "embodied life" - and I really like what that term conveys. There are so many things in our culture and daily lives that challenge actually living in the here and now, having face-to-face conversations, and not being continually attached to some electronic device.

So it's with some disbelief that I even sat down today to create a blog! However, as with all technology, my desire is that this blog serve as a means to a more embodied life (if it becomes otherwise, I will need to make some changes or stop using it). But I've been thinking a lot lately about the fact that I am a verbal processor who enjoys writing, but I don't actually do much of it (writing, that is). So for now, this blog is an experiment...will putting my thoughts in writing enable me to better live in the places where God has called me? We'll see.

I'm also limiting the access to this blog initially because I don't intend for this to be for just anyone to read. For me, a huge aspect of this "experiment" will be whether or not I am enabled to engage in more real ways with those who are part of my real-life, flesh-and-blood, life-together community.

So here goes . . .

So, with your thoughts on technology and facebook, I would be fascinated to hear your take on this new white paper that the Case Foundation just put out: www.socialcitizens.org. What are the real life benefits and consequences of social networking and online inter-connectedness of the millennial generation?
